Do you mean pneumatic replacements for engine valve springs or springs in pneumatic valves?

pneumatic engine valve springs..like forumla one and moto gp engines. in about 90% of the way there on building a new 19k RPM motorcycle engine and the valve springs will not run beyond 16k without changin to a lower lift/duration cam (not happening)

i was able to find a few schematics and even some cross section drawings. is basically a matter of maintainin 80-100 psi in the actual air chamber which means an in and out check valve, regulator and a tank.

Isnt there a mechanical design somewhere that is a cam open AND close? no springs involved?

Thats the desmodronic system I think. Ducati have this system on their machines.

Your at the right place when you are talking to Del West as they where the 1st to do this and still is curently along with a few others....Plus as you know they have a location on your side of the pond also...good luck and like to know how things go no matter who you use...

I have a question if you see this before or even later if you could ask whom ever your going to hire to help you develop this for your application, what is the maximum cyl. pressure these systems can operate?

Thank you in advance and once again good luck

Cyl. pressure from the combustion cause a lot of added force against the exhust valve from opening with nitrous so i was wondering what the abilities or limits of the system you looking at using?

Thanks

cylinder pressures have nothing to do with it. it will work just like a "normal" valve spring. the cam will still mechanically open the valve thru direct contact. the "spring" is jut being replaced with air.

well, del west doesnt even wanna call me back..oh well. i dont really need their help. Let me 'xplain somethin to em though....im not one you want to compete against. specially in the business world  ill under cut their prices so much they are gonna be BEGGIN for me to stop lol.

anyways. i got the test head milled. i messed up a bunch oftimes but i had 16 tries lol. i can take up to .185" out of the valve spring seat before i cut through. i think im going to stop about .100" that will allow me to have room to drill .050" holes that the spring "rotation stoppers" will sit in lol. i might even tap it for a tiny screw to help prevent any bounce of the bottom half of the spring. also with my design, standard valve guides SHOULD WORK. Albeit with some sealant around them, and modified to accept an o ring to seal the chamber. ill be using AAMCO45 guides which are "self lubing." they will have some help from coating on valves and assembly lube though..they should be ok. we'll see. i already have the design done and g code written, im just waiting on some free cnc lathe time at work so i can mill them out. then i need to get my o rings installed and put them together. once i get that far, its just a matter of putting them in the head, plumbing it, and putting the head on a spin tron and seeing how im gonna have to do check valves. im thinking of machining a air pump that mounts on the crank (in place of the stator..drag engine..its not needed) that will be able to supply a constant 80- 100psi to the springs (which is what formula 1 runs. with that in place it will just be a matter of getting the system pressurized before start up and then once it starts it should continue to run, no problem. BUT..i only need the motor to run for a few minutes each pass, so i might just do a high pressure nitrogen tank, and let it ride. I dont think formula 1 cars use a pump, i think they are just pressurized (ive seen them repressurize it in the pits before) the extra power going to the air compressor is also power that could be going to the wheel lol. anyways, i know a check valve we be required on the supply side of each valve. im trying to find some small enough, mechanical, and oil proof lol. if i cant find them, i will put in big ones and plumb it so the springs that need back flow prevention at the same time are all on the same supply. they will equalize each other this way....hopefully a return side wont be needed.

..ok anyways, im just randomly typing lol. helps me think! my mother in law just bought my wife a laptop and digital camera for her deployment to afghan coming up. once i get the camera in ill try to take pics for you guys. my cell is broke and my contract is up in SEPT (YAY) so not getting another one lol

Ok later!
