The Gearbox is done -

Standard Skoda rear engine 5spd boxes suffer from third gear moving - At proper torque levels it slides down the shaft. The shape of the helical gears is pushing it out of position. Its a shame as with a little engineering it could have been made to push ON.

With a bit of heat and hammer it moved back ok then I welded it into place. In theory a spacer can be added but this requires the shaft stripping back to components and is not so easy as everything is press fit.

Got a helix paddle clutch on its way - now I need to build an engine.

Any recomendations on things to change?

See!!!
I told you welding would be the easiest option. :)
Dont bugger about with spacers. The cog will just end up slipping on the shaft anyway.

Yup you waz right

now we will see where the next weak point is - but it will take a 75 now instead of a 50 so we should still stay ahead of the fabia.

REMEMBER when building an engine - make sure that all the parts fit together!

I have parts off skodas from 1980 to 2001 and yup MOSTLY they fit.

However the ends of the crank in an mpi engine are NOT the same as the spi and older engines. Therefore the v-belt crank pulley WONT fit  So I am going to have to pull the crank off my car to fit and this crank will be ready for the Red Rapid and supercharger..........

Gonna be a busy week - hopefully everything will arrive and I will be rebuilding by the weekend..........

Rich!
Forget the Skoda mate.....
Your next challenge will be to beat my new project ???

Its got 1275cc's and has already run a 16.4 nasp :D
Last weekend I installed a WON system with only a 10hp shot and she flew??

I'm on the dyno with the new car which is called "Project Red Dwarf" this Thursday :)

Last year she ran 16.4 with only 82bhp at the flywheel. I'm hoping to hit 100bhp at the fly very soon ??
I just need to get a new fuel system installed for the retro show.

Project Red Dwarf is going to leave a lot of 1800cc MGB owners with tears in their eye's this July mate

ET is all relative eh? 1800cc stage 2 MGB @ 17.1 seconds was the best from last years outing. 1275cc MG Midget @ 16.4 with only bigger carbs, better cam, and a free flow exhaust has already mashed that time. But the MG mob dont know it yet :)
With a 10-20 shot its going to wipe the floor with a factory MGB 3500 V8 this year I hope :beatstick:
