I edited my last post after noticing you'd added you first name to the end of the post but it was by memory that I typed your name. ;)

We got down to 10 secs with the stock box and I'm sure that with a quick shift that would have been nearer 6 secs.

With a diesel you'll have NONE of the problems we encountered with the petrol Smarts and we've seen outstanding results on other diesel cars, so lets see how far you can go.

Hi
I was just wondering if there's been any more progress on this. Do you recon the engine could take say 100,000 miles or would it still be fragile?
Do you recon you'll ever offer this as a roll in, roll out (quicker :D) service with all the engine mods, and how much roughly do you recon that will be.
Many people slate the bike engine conversions for being racers only, there's not much torque for daily driving and the gearing on them means that 6th gear is 1000revs per 10mph, so cruising at 70 is 7k. If you could make this cheaper and more reliable (bike gearboxes apparently can't take the extra weight), there'll be a massive market for it.

Not as yet because we're so busy (thankfully), despite the worldwide economic crisis.

If we're talking about our bullet proof forged pistons and rod type engine, then I can assure you there will be NOTHING fragile about that.

It would be nice but I couldn't say at this point.

I'm sure there'll be a good market for anything that improves on the stock flaws and it's just a shame that my plans (which were going nicely) have had to be put on hold for now.

Hi

Where did you order the forged rods and pistons from and how much did they cost?

Also how much nos was it able to safely take before you experienced issues with the manifold and spark? And do you know how you would fix those issues?

Thanks

I had them made especially for us and depending on what you want I may still have some in stock?

They would be for the 700cc engine.

Are they expensive? Also what is your view on using forged pistons on a daily driver? Some people say it's a no go due to the extra wear they cause when cold?

Also in your experience, do you think it's the rods or pistons that are the weak point?

How much NOS could the engine with just forged rods and pistons take safely?

The manifold is not a problem but you shouldn't add ANY nitrous without our spark box, as your pistons will fail very quickly without it.

And do you know how you would fix those issues?
Our spark box does that.

Thanks

I'll have to check what we have when I get back to England next week.

Well they aren't cheap and especially now the exchange rate is worse between the UK & Europe.

Forged pistons are fine for street use and don't cause wear, they're just noisier than cast pistons.

Also in your experience, do you think it's the rods or pistons that are the weak point?
Unfortunately BOTH are weak, which is why we replaced both for our use. It's just unfortunate that we ran out of spare time to continue working on this project as I'd really like to see how far we could go with it.

How much NOS could the engine with just forged rods and pistons take safely?
Well we managed to see a 60 HP increase and I felt sure I could have pushed that to double that amount with a bit more time.
The main problem when increasing the power by so much is the shift being so slow and we were also working on speeding that up but again we ran out of time, so it didn't get finished.
